Sharing

I woke up on Cloud Nine. full of gratitude for our friends,
neighborhood, home, (caterers), all the love we share with so many wonderful people,
and the wonderful festive evening last night.

We had a lot of sandwiches leftover (60) and I had a great idea to distribute some by
making lunches and sharing them with the homeless.
We packed 12 lunch sacks with 2 sandwiches, an orange and a few cookies in each plus a $20 bill and drove from Ft. Union, past 900 South toward Sugarhouse and Fairmont park,
then State Street to downtown.

We met some really sweet people and everyone was grateful for food.
Many started eating it before we drove away.

The sweetest older lady with a shopping cart on 900 South in front of Walmart.
Grateful and kind and sent me away with a "God Bless You."
A man sleeping in Fairmont Park.
A couple of young men sleeping outside of McDonald's.
They each had a package tied up with a bow next to them of toothpaste, deodorant and other toiletries.
An older man on State Street with his wife's wheelchair attached to his shopping cart. She recently stopped heroin because of an emergency a few weeks ago and with a smile he told me about their set-up behind the dumpster across the street and their siblings who work in the government who help them out when they need it.
A group of young adults who asked for more lunches for their friends.

In the end we gave away 30 sandwiches.
Food that would probably have gone bad and been tossed away within a few days.

I am grateful for the inspiration to share
and the time we had to drive around the city and find people who were hungry.
