 Moving Day!!
The road trip yesterday was easy-peasy, and dare I say, fun?
(Dan did all the driving as we were hauling the U-Haul trailer, so he might have a different opinion.)

We left at 1:00 p.m., listened to a book on tape (a true story of a guy doing business in Russia taking on the Oligarchs and almost getting imprisoned--even the boys and me were fascinated), stopped for gas a couple of times, picked up burgers in Durango to eat on the road and arrived in Pagosa just as it got dark.
Because we had the extra room in the trailer, we bought groceries at Costco before we left
so didn't have to stop at the City Market in town. Arrived in camp around 9:30.

At 5:30 a.m., my adrenaline was raring to go so Dan and I took our Pagosa walk around the loop--
our favorite way to take in the views, sunshine, smells and beauty of being in the San Juans.

(Of course at midnight, exhausted from all the heavy lifting and opening and putting together,
my feet so sore as if they were being crushed in a vice, 19,000 steps recorded for the day,
I was regretting the nearly 5 mile morning walk.
But that was at the end of the day.
In the morning, the time together was heavenly.

As we walked down the lane at 6:15 a.m., our landscape crew was already showing up.
Back home just before 8:00, we woke the boys up, fed them breakfast
and they walked out the door to their first morning laying sod.

We told Nick that if he wanted to invite friends this week, he needed to warn them
it was a work trip and he should choose wisely who he invited.
We'd use their help moving heavy boxes and putting together furniture.
Our landscapers were also excited to get extra hands...
They were thrilled when they realized what strong and super hard workers these boys are.
For four hours straight they assisted in getting our grass in.

They crew was also impressed that they only took short water/sunscreen breaks,
(Nick didn't even break to put on sunscreen -- a choice he later regretted),
and didn't want to stop for lunch until they were finished.

At 1:00 they came in for sandwiches and 30 minutes later the movers arrived
and then it was all hands on deck for the next five hours.

The 25' truck was absolutely cram packed with only two young guys on the team.
They literally would have been here all night if we didn't have Nick, Ryan, Ottle and Noah to assist.
(At one time, during planning, I'd wished it could just be me and Dan alone this week like when we moved into the bunkhouse so we could work without entertaining and feeding Nick and friends.
However, I am SO GLAD we had their help.
We literally could not have done it without them.

All our furniture was unassembled in shipping boxes straight from the receiver
which meant we had A LOT of cardboard/plastic/wood to unpack and dispose of.
There was so much trash when we moved into the bunkhouse, and this move would be five times that.
Thankfully Mike hauled it away for us. Our movers last summer said they couldn't--or wouldn't.

So I was ecstatic when these guys (Trevor and Cody--practically kids--literally they were 21),
said we could fill the truck and they would take it away to their dumpsters!
It was life-changing. When all was said and done, we stuffed their truck full of trash.
I wish I could say recycling. They said they recycle the cardboard but there was
a ton of plastic and styrofoam too. So who knows.

Nick and friends carried all the heavy gym equipment to the "attic" above the garage.
It weighed millions of pounds and took four incredibly strong boys over an hour
to move it all. Would have added 2-3 more hours onto the the movers' day (and therefore mine),
without the help.

I directed boxes and furniture, unpacking as fast as I could with the incentive of sending away as many cardboard boxes and debris as possible.
Dan was assembling in the house (four beds and three tables -- which took forever, because they weren't the clip the sides on and go kind.)
The boys took a short spin on ATV's around the property and then began assembling the gym equipment.
(And running over to the main house whenever beckoned for extra hands and muscles. Never forget: the sleeper couch that weighed a thousand pounds, had to be navigated up two turns of the stairs and ultimately didn't fit through the bedroom door, so sat like a beached whale in the hallway for four days until we had the energy to move it back down again.)

Our movers were young, but they also worked hard taking only short, short breaks.
They had such great attitudes in spite of all the heavy lifting.
We were super impressed. We tipped them well and they were surprised by the amount
which was super fun for us.
We really appreciated their hard work and ESPECIALLY, taking away all the boxes!!

After finishing the gym equipment, the boys ran to town to get some tools and also picked up
Papa Murphy's for dinner. Ended their day with a late night workout session.
I can't believe they had the energy!
(Well, guess they did have a little help from pre-workout caffeine.)

This is one of those days that at the end, you are so, so, so grateful for the help of so many...
Nick, Ryan, Noah & Ottle. Trevor & Cody. The landscape crew making the dirt green.
Mike, Ron & Bob and all the rest of the people who made our beautiful Piedra Haven!
