Holding your grandchild is so incredibly sweet!
And seeing your child smiling from ear to ear talking to his new baby girl
is equally as special! I'm just in love with all three of them--
Emi, Marty and Lizzie!
She was tiny and beautiful with a head of soft light brown hair.
She cried if she wasn't completely bundled,
but once she was swaddled settled right down.
No kidding, she was already holding her head up!
Marty changed her diapers, knew how to swaddle her and was very attentive to
instructions from the lactation specialist about how he could assist Emi and Lizzie
while they figured out how to nurse.
Lizzie was exhausted -- not surprisingly -- and not feeling great.
It is a little shocking to feel so beat up when you've been looking forward to
the event of having a baby for so long.
We forget. Thank goodness!
Lizzie's mom is staying with them until Sunday
and then I'll come and we'll pass the baby baton!
I told Marty I'd plan on coming Monday night so they could have a night to themselves.
He was a bit alarmed and exclaimed, "We just had a night alone last night!"
It didn't take too much to convince me to come out Sunday night.
I get to hold her sooner, after all.
All four of us grandparents went to lunch (at Torchy's - yum!)
Then back to the hospital to take turns holding her before saying goodbye.
(There were only supposed to be three visitors in the room besides Marty,
so we took shifts when we first arrived.
But this time we all walked to the room and Dan overheard the nurse say to another one,
"Aw, it's fine. Let's just let them go.")
Thank you!!
