Going At Our Own Pace

Each day we have a list of things we want to do, but no set time we have to do them.
I am LOVING this no-schedule, schedule!
Now that I don't have kids at home will I become spontaneous?

Explored the "North Woods" in Central Park this morning --
a part of the park between 96th and 110th we've never been before.
Waterfalls, ponds, woods and wandering paths. Super quiet and serene.

Movement and subtle noise in the bushes along the path kept startling us--
think 1970's First Vision movie vibe.

Would you have guessed there was a place in New York City for kids to build a fort?

Found our way over to the conservatory garden in the 90's on the east side of the park.
It was lush and lovely, manicured with flowers and a fountain dedicated to
Frances Hodgson Burnett (Author of The Secret Garden and The Little Princess.)

Even after criss-crossing along the park, Dan still wanted to get in a couple mile run.
I walked home around the reservoir and visited a couple of neighborhood parks on 89th and 87th.
One had a garden plot you could reserve.

Dan's bucket list for the day included riding the crosstown bus and visiting the Guggenheim.

Before the museum we ate lunch at the Lexington Candy Shop,
which was a vintage soda fountain and diner, not a candy store.
The root beer float was out of this world and I devoured my butter cheeseburger.
(A cheeseburger with a pat of butter on the bun).
Dan loved his cinnamon raisin french toast.

The Guggenheim:

After the Guggenheim, I ran back inside for a bathroom break
and while Dan was waiting for me, John Mellencamp walked by eating ice cream with his girlfriend.
Dan made eye contact.
"Great show last night," he told him.
"Thanks," said John Mellencamp.

We rode the bus back to the west side to visit a decorator show house
open house in a mansion on Riverside Drive.

Strolled through Riverside Park to home.

We had just enough time for two bites of pizza in a Times Square slice shop
before the play, Good Night Oscar, starring Sean Hayes.

Show was great, acting was fantastic.
I've got to remember to look for plays, not just musicals, when we're looking for shows to see.

Still craving pizza, we got a slice from the shop across the street from home, Sforno.
Tomorrow, we rest.
