On Friday I met our behind the river neighbors.
I've always been so curious about who lives a stone's throw from our backyard,
but we don't know them because they're not on our same block.
I've often thought about walking up the long lane to their home and knocking on the door,
but it sort of felt like trespassing and what if they weren't nice.
As it turned out, they knocked on our door Friday afternoon looking for our other neighbors.
But I'm so glad we got the benefit of their mistake and got the chance to meet them!
They were a delightful couple -- Gordy is 85, Karen is 78
and we had the best chat. They love to tease and joke and were full of life.
Gordy has a hobby of purchasing things from estate sales and garage sales.
He says he knows its junk, but he loves it anyway.
Karen is a watercolor painter, but can't paint anymore because of macular degeneration.
Later Friday evening, Dan and I took a walk (the long way) and knocked on their door and got a tour of their property and stories behind his horse corral, tack house, pretend police car and sheep wagons he collects. I also got a glimpse inside their home which is definitely full to the brim of treasure and I can't wait to go back and hear all the stories.
He and Dan also talked about potential flooding concerns and we heard about when the river flooded his property for two years in the 90's and the extent he had to go to to save it.
We've had an epic winter, but we need prayers for a SLOW warm-up so the snow doesn't melt too fast.
We're going to have them over this summer and they said I'm welcome to cross the river anytime and come knock on their door.
Dream come true!
