Marathon Report

Motivational signs...
Michael had to be to Staten Island Ferry by 6:10.
Courtney got up at the same time. So they had an early morning.

The cheer squad (me, Bob, Rhonda and Becca) met at Courtney's around 9:30
then walked over to the park and 86th to pick. up Meghan.
Walked across and down to 1st Ave.
The 2 mile walk didn't seem near as long when you're with a group to talk to.

Dad (Bob) tracking Michael on the app.

So many supporters lining 1st Ave.
It was pretty crowded at 86th, so we walked up to 101st
where we could be right on the tape.

Early morning quote from Gram made it to a sign.

Sheree, Jared and Simone joined us and so did J.D.
J.D. had found Michael at a couple earlier spots!

Here comes Monet!

She was struggling at the 18 mile mark.
75* and humid isn't the best running climate.
Especially when they started running at 9:00 (10:00 factoring in daylight savings!)
But she pressed on.

Michael came soon after with a lot of spirit!

Courtney ran off with him for a few lengths
and he also admitted it was super challenging.
18 miles though! Amazing!

We walked back to catch them at the 23 mile mark on 5th Ave.
Also met up with more of Michael and Courtney's friends.

5th Ave is more of a hill than I've realized before.
So we were thrilled when Monet came through without stopping,
just waving with a big smile on her face.
She and a high school gym coach -- a stranger -- had started talking and he helped her stay in the game.
...oh, the impact one person can have on another...

Michael also came through looking good!

FINISHER!!

The parents got to continue with Michael and Courtney for a bit longer
for a play-by-play during dinner at the apartment.
So fun to hear about the whole experience in detail.

Then we left them to relax and headed back to our own hotels to relax.
It was 6:00 and we were surprisingly exhausted, even those of us who didn't run a marathon.
Walked about 10 miles today, so that's something!
