Different But Good

We were surprised by Marty and Lizzie showing up planning on hanging out with us at the pool on July 4th! Made the day a little more fun to have them to hang out with!

Nick asked if he could go with friends to Wyoming to get fireworks. Sure. Oh, Wait! He wasn't going with parents. He was going with his friend who is 16 now and they were driving together. Their first road trip! (It's actually only an hour and a half away, and good road trip practice.) So he got a fun 4th adventure.

The rest of us swam, GrubHub'ed BBQ and read. When Nick got back, we forced him to hang out with us for an hour. And then the party was over. Nick had to go to work and Lizzie and Marty were headed to Rosen's for the evening. They took Nick on their way. After work he was going straight to a friend's house to light fireworks.

That left just Dan and me alone on the 4th. Salt Lake County cancelled all firework shows for the day, but the neighbors more than made up for it! Our trees are so tall, we couldn't see any explode, but we heard them all around us for hours! It was actually super festive!

Sunday was definitely quiet with Chris gone and Lizzie and Marty now down in Provo. But we got a text from Chris that he would call and teach us a lesson on the Plan of Salvation. It was a perfect Sacrament Meeting. He and his companion did a wonderful job. I loved how they asked me to share the Adam and Eve story. It helped me feel the spirit as I shared what I knew. Then he asked Nick to share what he understood would happen after we die. Great teaching technique. Teaching in English is new to him so that's something else he'll get good at.

The craziest part is his companion is the younger brother of Michael's (Courtney and Michael) roommate, Porter! We've met him a couple of times -- he came to dinner with us on Thanksgiving. (The roommate, not Chris' companion.) What a fun surprise! We actually call Porter "Big Nick" because they have similar glasses and hair and we think Porter looks like what Nick will look like when he grows up!
