While the Kids Are Away...

Marty and Courtney are together in New York.

Chris is wearing a Speedo on Senior Trip in Newport

Nick is with Miles and headed to BYU Basketball Camp together tomorrow.

So Dan and I came to San Diego for some R&R!

We're staying a few nights in Hotel del Coronado on the beach.

After getting home from Little Red, I showered and cleaned the house as fast as I could.
Earlier in the day, Dan sped to Farmington for Nick's lacrosse games,
home to send Kershaw to the trainer and then
to Highland to take Nick to Wingers.
Then spoke at Stake Conference leadership training session.

So we were both thrilled to get in the car, head to the airport,
catch up on our day and look forward to vacation!

Sunday morning we attended church nearby. Testimony meeting was super inspirational.
One woman was a visitor but got up anyway. She shared that 30 years ago she was a teenager, pregnant and scared. The missionaries found her, she got baptized, was sealed in the temple a year later and now she and her husband have been married almost 30 years, with four grown children, all of whom have served missions. The gospel changed her life.
She said the missionaries who found her were both from Utah. She imagined when they got calls to Portland, Oregon just a few states away, they probably weren't that excited.
But they changed her life.

After church we ate the famous Sunday brunch in the crown room of the Hotel Del.

We rented bikes and rode around the island. First we went to an art show in Spreckels Park
(not too impressive).

But we did enjoy resting in the park and listening to this kid play his ukulele.

And watch the workers prep for a concert that evening. They threw the white barricades off the truck.
And each time, no matter how on their sides they landed, they bounced back up to standing.

Just like Weebles.

We rode over to the ferry at the far side of the island which had another art show happening which was much more interesting.

It's fun to ride past all the beautiful coastal homes!
Back at the hotel, we ate pizza for dinner next to the fire pits.

Then walked back to Spreckels Park for the outdoor concert.

After we had ice cream at MooTime on the way home.
Ice cream nachos! Yum!

It's neither sunny nor hot, but being away is so relaxing!
