On Our Own Time

Nick and Miles starting their week at basketball camp with plenty of snacks to last four days!

Dan and I slept in, then caught up on Monday morning work in our hotel room.
After, we went for a quick bite to eat at the hotel bakery then a walk.
I feel like I'm always heady over delicious scents wherever we live or travel, especially in the Spring.
What's fun is Dan is so aware of how good it smells on this trip!
Jasmine is everywhere! He even picked some blooms
so we could bring the intoxicating scents into our room.

Jacaranda trees are also in full bloom and so stunning!
Just now I found this fantastic article about Kate Sessions who brought many of the flowering trees and plants to Southern California making it the beautiful garden it is today!

We wandered through the hotel and shops and then the tide pools at low tide.
(Santa Cruz' are still better) but there were lots of crabs, anemones and mostly shells.

The Sandcastle Man has been working hard. It would be fun to take a class!
(I can actually see him tending to his castles right now from our hotel room!)

We sat by the pool for a couple of hours reading and sleeping.
Then hot tubbing because the sun didn't come out at all today.
We anticipated June Gloom, so having no sun hasn't been disappointing.
Just happy to not have any rain like back home in Utah!

In the evening we took the ferry across the bay to Petco Field for a Padres game.
Machado was traded from the Dodgers to the Padres (and had a 3-run homer tonight)
and we also got to see Bryce Harper on the Phillies.

For MANY years now I've kept wanting soft-serve from the Mister Softee truck in NYC, but haven't gotten it -- generally because its too late at night or we've already just eaten or are about to eat!
So I was so happy to see a Mister Softee stand at the game!
We got huge cones as we left and licked them as we walked back to the ferry.

Awesome yacht with its own helicopter. The Attessa. Fancy...

The hotel lets you stream your own Netflix account so we've watched a movie each night.
We sleep with the doors open and listen to the ocean,
laughter of people having fun and are cooled by the ocean breeze.
It's been soooo relaxing!

It's also been cool to have the naval base so near. Planes are often flying over and we can watch them land on the landing strip not too far away.

Meanwhile these boys are having a blast!

I assume Courtney and Marty are too... haven't heard from them today.
