This morning we hopped out of our shared bed and got to work loading up the carts with all the goods Courtney gave to a company that collects donations for underprivileged families setting up house.
(By hopped out of bed, you know I mean, laid in bed after the alarm went off working on our NYT puzzles and checking the weather and news, and THEN, hopped out of bed.)
Last night we decided to switch our rental car from tomorrow to today.
The cleaning up and moving out was going quicker than anticipated, and a storm is predicted for tomorrow, so best to leave today and will be nice to sleep in our own beds rather than the apartment room for rent here in the building. (Although what a cool amenity!)
I picked up the rental car, Courtney loaded up the carts with what she's taking to New York,
and I managed a tricky parking situation.
We tetris'd her belongings and in under an hour the car was loaded.
Our plan was to eat pancakes at Courtney's favorite spot in Reading Terminal,
then I would drop her off at work for the afternoon while I stayed at the apartment
until a guy came to pick up the couch, the last stick of furniture in the place.
However, when we arrived at lunch, the pancake spot was closed.
We treated ourselves to burgers, potatoes, mac 'n cheese and shakes instead
and they were delicious.
(This is the second time Courtney's lived in a city whose team was in the Superbowl.
Last time was in Seattle and 12s were in every window.)
February 3, 2014
Courtney in front of the Philly office.
In the evening when the couch was picked up and Courtney was off work,
we said goodbye to Philadelphia and made the at times harrowing drive to New York.
It wasn't bad, just a little tricky driving to a new place in the dark with several freeway changes, made more complicated by the map taking us on and off the freeway for unclear reasons.
But Courtney is a patient navigator and we made it in just over two hours.
Michael met us at the curb to unload the car and then he found parking (thank you!),
As we were almost home, Courtney said how grateful she was that Michael was
the type of husband who helped out--unloading the car, parking, etc.
(Also making homemade hummus, I might add.)
They're both keepers. What a great team!
