Linemen crews have come to Salt Lake from all over the western states to help get power restored!! Over 190,000 have been without power since Tuesday! We're so glad to have a generator that powers some of our main needs (fridge, microwave, hot water boilers, garage doors and lights in the kitchen, master and Nick's room). Turning on our fireplaces helped a lot when it was cold. Today was warm enough that I opened the doors to bring some warm air in, and it made a big difference.
We're also glad to have learned more about our generator in case we have a bigger emergency in the future. Like that it needs oil added every couple of days. And our propane tank should run it about three weeks if the natural gas is turned off. We also want to get our thermostats linked to the generator so we can run our radiant heat. (Some rooms have their own radiant heat devices, and those will activate -- because the water boilers are powered by the generator. But some are on the A/C thermostats and those are not powered.)
My neighbor texted that crews had been working at her house for over two hours, so I walked down to see. This crew came from Reno, Nevada to help. The guy I spoke with said it was a long process to get the lines back up (literally from the ground) and check fuses before restoring power. He said if a fuse is blown and they turn the power on, a devastating house fire can start. So they are really careful.
Elise's power was on by 7:30 p.m., but not ours. Maybe tomorrow. So grateful to these men (and women?) who have left their homes and come to help!! Thank you!
