Cecret Lake Sunday

Today after church (in-person!) we hiked to Cecret Lake in Alta. Nick drove his first canyon drive and did great! Alta limits the cars in the upper parking lot, so we had to wait our turn. But the views were spectacular.

Lots and lots of children were on this hike, and it was more challenging than I expected. More challenging than most of their parents expected too, because half those children were crying. (Only 450 in elevation gain over 1 mile, but the bulk of the gain is in a few switchbacks.)

But there’s something invigorating about being out and about with a lot of other people, and I’m glad we went!

The lake was a bright green in the shallow parts. We sat on a ledge for a bit and watched the large salamanders swim below.

On the way home, Dan and Nick were fantasizing about owning a cabin or condo up here so they could come up the night before a ski day and not have to fight traffic in the morning. (Or wait for avalanche control to open the roads.) So we drove through a few streets and surfed MLS to get an idea of pricing. Like anything else in tourist places, not only were the homes pricey, it was the HOA fees that killed the deal.  But it’s always fun to think about!

Lizzie and Marty came for dinner and Nick and Marty both wanted to make the stir-fried rice. They’ve both perfected their recipes and we were thrilled to let them cook! In fact, Lizzie and I sat at the counter talking and watching while Dan cooked up the teriyaki salmon and vegetables and the boys made the rice! Fresh peaches and crepes for dessert. Yum!
