Mljet Biking and Celebrations

Every morning before lunch we take a swim stop.
Everyone jumps off the top of the boat, (I haven't yet--it's so high and I've lost my nerve/desire),
a bunch of guys go on long swims, others paddle board, float, canoe and jet ski.

Today we played with the Sea Bob which was a lot of fun.
It's also a good time to chat and get to know the person you're floating near better.
This is a group where most have no fear jumping!

Goats watched us play today.

But we had a visit from the police today too because the guys were driving the
Sea Doo "recklessly" going fast and circling the swimmers (their friends, but the police didn't know that.) Lots of guys were doing it. Just one got stopped and reprimanded.
It became a running joke the rest of the trip of Dave's run-in with the cops.
Fortunately he was a guy who could keep his cool in conflict.

Arriving in Mljet, a quiet National Park with two lakes and hiking and biking paths,

We rode bikes which were supposed to be electric, turned out to just be regular,
and in the end it didn't matter because the whole path was flat.

We parked the bikes for a short trip to the old monastery island.

And little churches along the path with special treasures.

The end of the bike path took us to the ocean.
The two lakes on the island used to be freshwater.
Then humans blasted a path to get to the sea in order to make transport easier.
But now the freshwater lakes are salty.
They also introduced mongoose to help with the snake population.
They got rid of the snakes, but not the mongoose are eating the birds.
oh humans.

A strong current flows in this channel from one lake to the next and we had fun
playing in the natural lazy river!

Tonight was "Captain's Dinner" and we decided (ahead of time) our theme
would be all-white, and also celebrate the special birthdays.
Three friends turned 50 this month and one was turning 40!
Several were celebrating 30 years of marriage, hence the reason for the big trip!

We played a game of "sit down if..."
for those with the most kids, most moves, oldest age, youngest age, longest marriage,

Michelle had funny pictures of the birthday girls and we played "what do you meme."

And then we started our dance party! It lasted for half of one song before the crew told us we had to turn off the music as it was after 11:00. Bummer.
But we rallied and came up with another group game.
Everyone writes their name on paper and puts it into a bowl.
Then everyone draws a name from the bowl.
Pretend I got Brent.
You don't know anyone's new names and the object is to get
four people from the same team, four in a row.
(We played boys against girls.)
When your new name is called, you move to the one empty spot and the person to the left of the spot just vacated calls another name.

It's very tricky to try to remember who has who's name.
There was lots of cheering and shouting as we got right and wrong
and pretty soon Dora, clearly awakened from sleep staggered into our game and told us we had to be quiet.

It's been quite a day for getting in trouble!
Also, we are very good rule followers, because we were able to continue playing,
but with whispers and silent claps and cheers.

***

When we come into a port, the boats dock side-by-side instead of nose in.
So you get on and off by walking across the other ships!
The system works pretty well and at night you're surrounded by dozens of other boats and parties.
Think Lake Powell marinas.
But its also why the boat captains are very nervous about keeping quiet hours.
