Exploring

First thing this morning we walked down to the beach.
Through our resort, across the highway and along a nature path adjacent to the golf course.
Sandy dunes down to the sand and then the ocean with hardly anyone in sight.

Quiet breakfast on the cafe patio afterward. A lot different than last night.

Found a little shout out sitting below my chair.

Hiked to Drift Creek Falls and the suspension bridge.
Very popular, relatively easy hike for all ages, although there was some elevation --
a descent down and climb back out.
We took the "north trail" on the way back out which was longer and quieter.

Lunch at Wild Flower Grill was delicious!
Shrimp po' boy and fish 'n chips -- the best "chips" we've ever had.

We explored the Devil's Lake area (amazing campground).
We might go kayaking or paddle boarding one day.
Then down the coast toward Newport.

A fun part of our trip is how often we've said, "Look there, let's check it out!"
That's how we found the Yaquina Head Lighthouse
and the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area (that's the true name!)

Loud squawking from every rocky crag covered with birds.

A man with a huge telescopic lensed binocular asked us if we wanted to look at the birds up close.
Thanks friendly guy! I was hoping you'd ask!
He also told us the birds were Common Murres and Pelagic Cormorants.

The rocks down below on Pebble Beach were rocks you pay good money for to decorate your yard.
Addictingly smooth. I might have put one in my pocket even though the signs say if everyone takes one there will be none left. And you'll have bad luck. But I really like rocks.

Stopped at "Devil's Punchbowl"

And stopped here for a pic here too.
Thanks Dan for stopping every time I say, "Stop! Let's get a picture of that!"
