Nicholas Says...
Nicholas: Why don't we have any babies in our family?
Me: We did... You! And then you got bigger!
Nicholas laughs.
Me: We also had Courtney, then Marty, then Christopher... and they were all babies and then they all got bigger!
Nicholas: When I get older, I'm going to get married and then we're going to have babies. Whoooooooaaa...That's FREAKY!

All By Ourselves!
Christopher and his friend Kayli found wood in the garage and wanted to make a table. When they had trouble nailing a leg on, they wanted me to do it for them. When I declined, there was some complaining.
Finally I said I'd "teach" them how to do it, but I wouldn't do it for them. I went to the garage and showed how you nail the nail in a bit to get it to stay. Then left.
They worked and soon got discouraged again. Dad came home and they tried to get his help. He taught them how to use the drill and the saw. More complaining when he wouldn't do the drilling and sawing for them.
But they went back to the garage and tried some more. A long while later they ran in the house soooo excited! Their table was finished! Turns out they learned that Kayli was great at hammering nails and Christopher is great at sawing! Nick got in on the action and excitement of building too. They were so proud of what they created all by themselves! And I'm so proud of us parents for not doing it for them!

Happy Birthday, Nicholas!
Yesterday Nick turned 5. He is newly excited about space, The Moon, Planets and The Mars Rover (thanks to a PBS special he found one evening). We went to the Planetarium in the morning before preschool and looked at all the cool space stuff and then to Pottery Barn Kids to buy a Rocket Ship quilt. He said things like "This is the first time I've been to the Planetarium when I'm 5!"
After school we had his birthday party at a fun indoor "Bouncy" place with all his friends and family. What a great day!
Last week he wanted to walk to school. It was cold and snowy and we had 1 minute to get there and it's 1 mile away. He REALLY wanted to walk! I had lots of places to go after I dropped him off and didn't have time to walk all the way home again. But what the heck -- it's preschool so I don't really care if he's late.
So I drove, following behind him. This was a fun way to do it because he felt like he was walking all by himself. It was so fun watching him, I started snapping photos. Then a great song came on the radio and it was the perfect background music so I started taking video. Then I started crying because he was so stinking cute and the music was perfect and it was so fun to get to watch my 5-year-old "out on the town!"
